Inside our Santa Margarita Project

At first glance, Hibner Design Group’s Santa Margarita residence in Fallbrook, California looks like a modern home — open, airy, and beautifully understated. But behind its soft tones and sculptural furnishings is a bigger purpose: creating a space that actually helps people feel better.

This project, designed for A Mission for Michael, is part of Hibner Design’s growing portfolio of mental-health environments that feel nothing like traditional facilities. Instead of sterile hallways or harsh lighting, Santa Margarita feels human — comfortable, warm, and connected to the California landscape outside.

Designing mental health retreats are about balance — creating spaces that feel open without feeling empty, and grounding without feeling heavy. Hibner strikes that balance by keeping things simple and intentional. Every texture, tone, and layout choice encourages residents to slow down, connect, and feel at ease in their surroundings.

There’s no sharp contrast, no overstimulation — just a flow that mirrors how you want your mind to feel: calm, steady, and clear.

Mental-health spaces don’t have to feel clinical. They can be beautiful, modern, and deeply human — designed with the same care you’d give any home.

Our Santa Margarita Project reminds us that when we prioritize how a space makes people feel, the design becomes more than aesthetic. It becomes part of the healing process.
